Feature Toggles

Every gamification mechanic can be enabled or disabled per child. This customization allows you to calibrate the experience precisely for each child's age, personality, and motivational style. Below is a complete reference of all configurable features.

Note

Feature toggles are per-child settings. Child A can have different features enabled than Child B. Changes take effect immediately—no app restart required.

Core Gamification

Points System

Enabled by Default

Enables the core points economy where children earn points for completing tasks. Points accumulate in their balance and can be exchanged for rewards you define in the catalog. Base value is 10 points per task, but this can be adjusted per task based on difficulty or estimated effort.

Considerations: This is the foundation of the gamification system. Disable only if you want a purely task-tracking experience without rewards. Even children who are not motivated by points often enjoy watching their balance grow.

Morning Completion Bonus

Optional

Awards 50 bonus points if all morning tasks are finished before 1 PM. This creates incentive to start the day strong and complete work early. The bonus is awarded automatically when the last morning task is marked complete, provided all morning tasks for that day are done.

Considerations: Ideal for children who respond well to time-based challenges. May cause stress for children who struggle with morning routines or have variable energy levels. Consider disabling for younger children or those with ADHD who need more flexibility.

Deadline Warnings

Enabled by Default

Shows a confirmation dialog when attempting to defer a task past its deadline. The warning explains the deadline, notes the consequences of deferral, and asks for confirmation before allowing the action. Helps prevent accidental deadline misses while teaching responsibility about due dates.

Considerations: Great for teaching deadline awareness. May feel restrictive for older teenagers who prefer full autonomy. The warning can be bypassed with confirmation, so it educates without fully preventing the action.

Automatic Afternoon Move

Optional

At 1 PM exactly, any incomplete morning tasks automatically relocate to the afternoon section. Creates a natural deadline that motivates completion and eliminates fuzzy boundaries. The move triggers visually with a notification, reinforcing that time has passed.

Considerations: Strong motivator for time-sensitive children. Can feel punitive for children who need more time in the morning. Works best when combined with the Morning Completion Bonus for a complete "morning routine" incentive structure.

Time and Focus

Task Timer

Optional

Allows marking a task as "currently working on" with a running timer. Children can start, pause, and stop the timer while working on tasks. Total time spent on each task is recorded and can be reviewed later. Useful for building awareness of how long different types of work actually take.

Considerations: Excellent for teaching time management and estimation skills. May distract younger children who forget to start/stop the timer. Best for children age 10+ who can understand and maintain timer discipline.

Focus Mode

Optional

When enabled, clicking "Focus" on a task highlights that card with a distinct border and dimming effect on all other cards. Reinforces single-tasking and reduces visual distractions. The focused task visually stands out as the one thing the child should be doing right now.

Considerations: Helps children with attention challenges stay on task. The visual isolation can feel encouraging or restrictive depending on the child. Works well in combination with the Task Timer for deep work sessions.

Planning and Organization

Do Tomorrow Sidebar

Enabled by Default

Enables a dedicated sidebar on the right side of the screen for deferring tasks. Dragging a card to this sidebar removes it from today's view and schedules it for tomorrow's morning section. Tasks appear in tomorrow's list automatically when that day arrives.

Considerations: Provides intentional deferral rather than abandoning tasks. The sidebar is always visible, so children can see what they're pushing to tomorrow. Consider disabling if you prefer children to complete all tasks the same day.

Historical View

Enabled by Default

Enables browsing of past days to see how the board looked on any previous date. Past dates appear in grayscale or sepia tone to clearly distinguish history from the present. Helps children reflect on their productivity patterns and celebrate consistency over time.

Considerations: Great for celebrating streaks and reviewing progress. May be discouraging for children who prefer to forget unfinished work. The visual distinction (grayscale) helps prevent confusion about which day is "today."

Date Navigation

Enabled by Default

Shows arrow buttons at the top of the page for navigating between days. Going left shows yesterday's completed state, going right shows tomorrow's planned state. Transforms the application from a single-day view into a continuous timeline of productivity.

Considerations: Essential for planning ahead and reviewing past performance. Children can accidentally navigate away from today if they don't understand the navigation. The current day is always clearly indicated.

Rewards and Motivation

Shop and Rewards

Enabled by Default

Allows children to browse and redeem rewards from the catalog you have created. Shows available rewards, point costs, and purchase buttons. When a reward is redeemed, points are deducted from the child's balance and the reward is marked as claimed. One-time rewards are removed after redemption; recurring rewards remain available.

Considerations: Builds connection between effort and tangible outcomes. Essential for the points economy to have meaning. Can be configured to require parent approval before redemption if you want more control over when rewards are given.

Achievement Badges

Enabled by Default

Awards badges for various milestones including streaks, point totals, task completions, and special achievements. Badges appear in the child's profile and can be displayed proudly. Collection-style motivation that provides goals beyond daily tasks.

Considerations: Great for collectors and children who enjoy visual progress indicators. Can create pressure for completionists. Consider disabling for children who feel discouraged when they see incomplete badge sets.

Leaderboard

Optional

Shows a ranking between family members or assigned groups. Encourages friendly competition by displaying who has the most points, longest streaks, or most completed tasks. Can be family-wide or limited to specific achievement categories.

Daily Target

Optional

Sets a daily point target and shows visual progress toward that goal. When the target is reached, a celebration animation plays. Encourages children to complete "enough" each day rather than stopping after the minimum. Target can be fixed or calculated based on scheduled tasks.

Considerations: Helps children understand daily expectations. Can create压力 (pressure) to reach the target even when tired. Works well with a visible progress bar that shows how close they are to the goal.

Parent Controls

Manual Point Adjustments

Parents Only

This feature is only visible in Parent Admin Console. Allows parents to manually add or subtract points from a child's balance with a required reason note. Useful for rewarding behavior outside the app, correcting automated tracking, or providing bonus incentives for exceptional effort.

Considerations: Use sparingly to maintain the integrity of the points system. Document reasons for adjustments so children understand why their balance changed. Can be disabled if you prefer a fully automated points system.

Approval Queue

Optional

When enabled, completed tasks do not automatically award points. Instead, they appear in a Parent Approval Queue where you can review and approve, reject, or adjust the point value. Approved tasks award points; rejected tasks require re-completion.

Considerations: Maximum control over point awards. Good for younger children who need help understanding quality of work. Creates additional overhead for parents. Consider enabling only for specific high-stakes tasks.

Weekly Reports

Enabled by Default

Generates automated summary reports each week showing performance metrics: total points earned, tasks completed, streak status, top reward purchased, and trends compared to previous weeks. Reports can be viewed in-app or exported to share with other caregivers.

Considerations: Great for tracking long-term progress and identifying patterns. Can be shared during family meetings about responsibilities. Disable for children who feel uncomfortable with performance tracking.
